Real world art experiences
JSA students are given the opportunity to experience art and art culture. Special courses include Musical Theatre Movement, Art of Craft, Digital Art & Design, Jewelry & Metals, Printmaking, and Sculpture.
JSA students have attended performances like The Taming of the Shrew, Billy Elliot, and A Chorus Line, participated in master classes in all arts disciplines, visited museums in Cleveland, Akron, and Canton, studied at Kent State University, and toured the Abercrombie & Fitch design headquarters in Columbus.

JSA has established partnerships and collaborations with Artists in Residence and art organizations, as well as the University of Akron and Kent State University. These partnerships allow students to explore relationships between academics, the arts, and society.

Student art organizations at Jackson High School include the Tri-M Music Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and International Thespian Society.
The meraki Gallery
The Meraki Gallery is a student-run art gallery and exhibition space situated within the Jackson High School Commons. It is supported by JSA staff, Lisa Ayres and Susie Gardner.
JSA students are responsible for all administrative and artistic roles for the Gallery, including direction, curation, exhibit installation, and marketing.
Elec Simon, Artist in Residence Example
Elec Simon served as an Artist in Residence to create an empowering and powerful rhythmic experience reminiscent of Rio de Janeiro's Carnival.
A self-taught and renowned percussionist and tap dancer, Elec Simon is an influencer in the world of music, dance, and youth empowerment. In addition to featured performances including his role in the Broadway performance of STOMP, Simon also dedicates time and talent to working with young people including high-risk youth.
Simon’s mission is to use percussion, music, dance, and encouragement to empower and inspire young people, and to promote positive relationships based upon mutual respect.
