WKYC Features JSA Production of Footloose

On October 26, WKYC Cleveland featured JSA’s production of Footloose which showcased its new approach to set development using production mapping instead of traditional set building.

Persistent pandemic conditions and related supply chain and cost issues have driven JSA to develop alternatives with its Artist in Residence, OBLSK.

Jackson School For The Arts made a decision to produce "Footloose" this fall in a way that reflects themes of today.

"Footloose tells the story of a community in conflict. And, people with differing opinions learn to discuss and talk about those issues and agree to disagree.", said Hannah Rissler.

"The rising cost of lumber and building sets. There are no more costume companies. We used to have several sources from which we could rent costumes. They've since evaporated," said Susie Gardner.

Artist in Residence, OBLSK from Columbus, has worked with JSA staff to create a solution to persistent supply chain issues. Using projection mapping, the existing stage and background elements are transformed into moving, interactive digital displays.

In addition to generously donating time and expertise, the OBLSK team is also donating its services and mentoring JSA students who are helping with the production.
